A seminar was jointly held by the Green Council with the Environmental Division of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and the Hong Kong Waste Management Association on 17 October 2003 (Friday). The occasion was a talk given by Dr. Ning Yu of the Green Mark Ecolabelling program of Taiwan, on “Green Mark Ecolabelling and Government Green Procurement”. The Green Mark program was outlined, including aims of the scheme, selection of product categories, and concepts of life cycle consideration. Measures for the priority procurement of environmentally preferable products by the government as administered by legislaion was also discussed.
The seminar was well attended by professionals from different sectors. The talk was followed by a lively discussion session. Participants were issued attendance certificates for application for CPD days.
Dr. Yu is currently the President of the Environment and Development Foundation (EDF) of Taiwan, which was established in 1997 as a spin-off organization of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) . Starting as a chemist, Dr. Yu has been involved in various research programs at ITRI where she was also the director of the Green Mark environmental labelling program. From August 1997, Dr Yu has been the President of EDF taking over the Green Mark program from ITRI. She is on the Board of the Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN), and had been representing GEN at international conferences. She is also a Lead EMS Auditor, registered at IRCA.
